Film Screening (in German with English subs):

In cooperation with the Gottlieb Schumacher Institute
and the Goethe Institute, Tel Aviv

"Die vergessene Mission.Spurensuche: Bayerische Flieger 1917/18 – Palästina"

("The Forgotten Mission: Searching for Traces of the Bavarian Flyers in Palestine 1917-1918")

Followed by a discussion with Godel Rosenberg (representative of Bavaria in Israel)

From 1917, German air force units supported the Ottoman-Turkish ground forces in Syria and Palestine. Also the Bavarian force 304 operated for the air recon until September 1918 under the codename “Pascha II”. The pilot was accompanied by one air observer who handled the heavy camera, at times leaning dangerously out of the plane. In doing so, a unique documentary about contemporary Israel came into being. Today the documentary that was filmed on glass slap negatives is archived in Munich.
