Persian–German Literary Relations – Presentation of our Researcher , Dr. Yarden Ben-Zur
Dr. Yarden Ben-Zur, our Manfred Lahnstein Postdoctoral Fellow for 2025–2026, participated in the biennial conference of the Association for Iranian Studies (AIS) in Utrecht, where he presented on a panel on Persian–German literary relations. Ben-Zur’s paper examined the 19th century German poet and orientalist Friedrich Rückert’s “translations” of Rumi, showing that they combine several Persian sources with Rückert’s own creative inventions. It asked what happens when poetic conventions are transformed from one language into another, and how translation might be understood in a broader sense.
