 Manfred Lahnstein Short-Term  Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship in Germany in 20th-century German Studies

for the 2022-2023 Academic Year

The Bucerius Institute for Research of Contemporary German History and Society invites applications for the Manfred Lahnstein short-term post-doctoral fellowship. The fellowship of 10,000 EU will be granted for research in Germany.

The Lahnstein Fellowship supports innovative research on 20th-century German history, culture, and society. It is designed to cover a three-month research stay in Germany, to allow the archival work needed to complete the fellow’s research project. The Fellowship is intended for one Israeli post-doctoral researcher.

The Lahnstein Fellow will be committed to:

  1. Give the annual “Lahnstein Lecture” at the end of the fellowship. The “Lahnstein Lecture Series” is a new, high-profile event at the University of Haifa, sponsored by the Bucerius Institute and attended by a large audience of students and faculty from both the University of Haifa and the other academic institutions in Israel.
  2. To acknowledge the support of the ZEIT-Stiftung and the Bucerius Institute in the publication(s) related to the research conducted during the Lahnstein Fellowship period.

Interested applicants must have been awarded their Ph.D. no earlier than October 01, 2018, and have submitted their dissertation no later than June 1st, 2022. 

Applicants should submit:

  • A one-page letter of application, briefly describing research experiences and the proposed project.
  • Research proposal (up to 5 pages)
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • Official Doctoral Diploma (or official recognition of the submission of the dissertation).

All material should be written in English.
