Singing the Song of Immigration. Songs of German-Jewish Immigrants to Mandate Palestine in the 1930s and 1940s

This article explores song and performance among immigrants to Mandate Palestine.Methodologically, using such songs means choosing an alternative perspective on the migration process, as they provide a counter-narrative to the contemporary norms and discourses of the Yishuv. Read in such a way, these songs can enrich our understanding of how these immigrants coped with dramatic changes within their own community as well as with the expectations of the absorbing society.
